Sophia Quarenghi, nativa de Basilea, Suiza, de madre italiana (Bergamo), inicia sus estudios de violín en el Conservatorio y recibe clases de baile clásico en el Teatro de Basila a los 5 años. Toca durante más de 15 años en la Orquesta de Cámara y más adelante en la Orquesta Sinfónica de Juventud del Conservatorio de Basilea, también como solista.

De 1995 a 2002 trabaja como médico asistente en psiquiatría en Suiza. Doctora en Medicina General por la Universidad de Basilea en 1993.

Entre 2011 y 2016, estudia violín en el Conservatorio Superior de Música «Manuel Castillo» de Sevilla, terminando los estudios en 2016.

Después de un encuentro decisivo con el flamenco en 1989 en Almuñecar (Granada), empieza, junto con su empleo como médico asistente, con el estudio del baile flamenco, el cual profundizará en varios viajes por Andalucía y Alemania. Durante más de 12 años y con creciente intensidad, se dedica al baile flamenco hasta trasladarse definitivamente a Jerez de la Frontera donde reside desde otoño 2002. Desde entonces, Sophia trabaja como violinista en diferentes formaciones de flamenco y producciones propias..

Actualmente es miembro de la Compañía del guitarrista Paco Cepero. Además, colabora con distintos artistas como los cantaores Antonio Reyes, Rancapino Chico, Pedro Granaino y la cantaora Luisa Muñoz.

De 2003 a 2008 Sophia Quarenghi fue miembro de la Compañía de la pianista flamenca Rosario Montoya, “La Reina Gitana”, de 2003 a 2005 del grupo Rock celta “Saurom Lamderth”, entro otros grupos. Además ha trabajado en formaciones de muy distintos estilos musicales, como el jazz, brasil-jazz, blues, tango argentino, música de Mesopotamia y otros estilos.

Quarenghi ha colaborado con otros artistas Jerezanos de renombre en los Espectáculos de Villancico en el Teatro Villamarta en 2003, 2005, 2007 y 2016 con Fernando Terremoto, Juan Zarzuela “El Zarzuelita”, Ezequiel Benítez y Pedro Garrido «Niño de la Fragua».

Además ha colaborado en varios festivales en España y en el extranjero, sea en el ámbito de la música clásica, sea en el ámbito del flamenco. Entre otros festivales, actuó en: Festival Internacional de Música de Jimena, 2003; Festival Internacional de Flamenco de Jerez en los años 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2013, 2016 y 2017; Festival de Flamenco “Cante de las Minas” en 2007, con el ganador del “Bordón Minero” de 2006, el Niño Brenes; New World Flamenco Festival en Irvine, California (Los Angeles), con la Compañía de María José Franco.

Con el guitarrista Paco Cepero trabajó, entre otras actuaciones, en el Teatro Villamarta de Jerez en 2009; en el 12.Festival de Flamenco CAJA MADRID en 2009; en el “Internacionales Kunstcampus” de Antwerpen en 2011; en el contexto del circuito “Flamenco viene del Sur”, en el Teatro Alhambra de Granada en marzo 2014; en la Bienal de Sevilla 2014; en el Festival Internacional de Jerez 2015 en el Teatro Villamarta; en la bienal de Málaga 2015; en el FlamencoFest de Viena 2017; Festival Flamenco de Lo Ferro 2017; La Unión 2022.

En 2006 Sophia Quarenghi graba “De Bach a Flamenco” en el estudio SH Record de Pepe Sánchez Rojas, en Madrid. A partir de entonces, ofrece varios recitales con obras de J.S.Bach, Albéniz y piezas flamencas de su propia composición. En octubre de 2007 presenta su primer espectáculo “El Viaje de Violina” en la Sala Compañía. Su segundo trabajo, “El Arco Flamenco”, de contenido flamenco únicamente, se presenta el 10 de abril de 2014 en la Sala Paúl y se estrena el 10 de noviembre en Sala Compañía en la III Semana del Día Internacional del Flamenco de Jerez de la Frontera.

El 5 de noviembre de 2015 Quarenghi expone en la Peña Tío José de Paula la conferencia » La evolución del violín en el flamenco», en el contexto del XIX Curso de Enseñanza de Cante Flamenco.

El 28 de octubre de 2016 ofrece, con la colaboración especial del cantaor Joaquín «El Zambo», un recital dentro del ciclo XXXII Otoño Flamenco en la peña Tío José de Paula. A raiz de este encuentro, nace el espectáculo «Flamenco más allá de la Frontera» estrenado el 28 de abril de 2017 en Jerez de la Frontera.

El 16 de julio presenta su primer trabajo discográfico «Flamenco en clave de sol» en los Claustros de Santo Domingo en Jerez de la Frontera.

El 28 de agosto de 2020 actúa en el circuito «Conciertos en el Patio Paúl» y el 9 de mayo en el X Jerez Off Festival 2021.

Sophia Quarenghi, native of Basel (Switzerland) and italian mother (Bergamo), begins her violin studies at the academy of music and receives classes in classical ballet in the theatre of Basel at the age of 5. She plays during more than 15 years in the chamber orchestra and later in the youth symphonic orchestra of Basel, as a soloist, too.

From 1995 to 2002 she worked as an medical doctor in psychiatry in Switzerland. PhD in General Medicine from the University of Basel in 1993.

Between 2011 and 2016, she studied violin at the Conservatory of Music «Manuel Castillo» in Seville, finishing her studies in 2016.

After an intense encounter with flamenco in 1989 in Almuñecar (Granada), she begins, working at the same time as a medical doctor, her studies in flamenco dance, which she deepens  in several trips throughout Andalucía and Germany. During more than 12 years and with increasing intensity, she dedicates herself to flamenco dance, till she decides to remove  to Jerez de la Frontera, where she lives since autumn 2002. Since then, Sophia is working as a violinist in different flamenco groups and in own productions..

Currently she is member of the company of the flamenco guitarist Paco Cepero. In addition to that, she works with different flamenco artists such as Antonio Reyes, Rancapino Chico and Luisa Muñoz.

From 2003 to 2008 Sophia Quarenghi was member of the Company of the flamenco pianist Rosario Montoya, “La Reina Gitana”, from 2003 to 2005 of the Celtic Rock Group “Saurom Lamderth”, among other groups. She was also working in formations of different musical styles, such as jazz, brazil jazz, blues, argentine tango, music of Mesopotamia and other styles.

Sophia has collaborated with other important flamenco artists of Jerez in the Christmas performance in the Villamarta Theatre of Jerez de la Frontera in 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2016 with Fernando Terremoto, Juan Zarzuela, “El Zarzuelita”, Ezequiel Benítez and Pedro Garrido «Niño de la Fragua».

She collaborated in different Festivals in Spain and abroad in the field of classical as well as in flamenco music. Among other Festivals she was performing in: International Music Festival of Jimena, 2003; International Flamenco Festival of Jerez in 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2013; Flamenco Festival  “Cante de las Minas” in 2007, with the winner of the “Bordón Minero” of 2006, “El Niño Brenes”; New World Flamenco Festival of Irvine, California (Los Angeles), with the flamenco company of María José Franco.

With the flamenco guitarist Paco Cepero she was performing in 2009 in the Villamarta Theatre of Jerez de la Frontera, in the XII Flamenco Festival of CAJA MADRID in 2009; in the International Kunstcampus of Antwerpen in 2011; in the Alhambra Theatre of Granada in the context of “Flamenco Viene del Sur” in march 2014; in the International Flamenco Festival of Jerez de la Frontera in march 2015 in the Villamarta Theatre; in the bienal de Málaga 2015; in the FlamencoFest of Viena in 2017 and La Unión Festival 2022.

In 2006 Sophia Quarenghi records “From Bach to Flamenco” in the recording studio SH Record of Pepe Sánchez Rojas in Madrid. From there on she offers different recitals with works of J.S.Bach, Albéniz and flamenco pieces of her own composition. In October 2007 she presented her first performance, “El Viaje de Violina” in the Sala Compañía Theatre. Her second recital, of flamenco content  only, “El Arco Flamenco”, is presented in april 2014 in Sala Paúl. Both performances are presented in Jerez de la Frontera.

On 5th of october 2015 Quarenghi presents the conference «The evolution of the violin in the Flamenco» in the Peña Tío José de Paula of Jerez de la Frontera, in the context of the XIX «Curso de Enseñanza de Cante Flamenco».

On 28 of october 2016 she offers, with the special collaboration of the singer Joaquín «El Zambo», a recital in the context of the XXXII «Otoño Flamenco» of the Peña Tío José de Paula. At the root of this meeting, the show «Flamenco más allá de la Frontera» was born and premiered on April 28, 2017 in Jerez de la Frontera.

Currently he presents his first album «Flamenco en clave de sol» at Claustro de Santos Domingo, Jerez de la Frontera.
